As you all have probably gathered I'm pretty skeptical about the smaller fly-by-night sites out there, here's the latest scam:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28/internet-poker/t6poker-major-fraud-312600/

Cliff's notes: it was basically a pyramid scheme poker site that relied on new deposits to pay the tourney guarantees and cashouts.  Now a bunch of people are stuck a lot of money and the site isn't paying out.  Small russian poker sites FTL.

Oh man, stories like this are SOOOO bad for online poker.  And by the sounds of it the same scumbags are just going to keep doing this.  I can understand why people get sucked in when the site is endorsed by a well-known pro, particularly if they're new and don't follow the forums.  But it's criminal that these sites can just get away with it.  I don't understand why the gaming commission or someone can't do something, or why don't the individuals involved sue?  It's so depressing to read this kind of thing.

Yeah I read that too Dave, I'd be surprised if it were true.  Tony G has a bit of a reputation at the tables but he's always seemed a really straight up "man of the people" type whenever I've seen him interviewed.  It's hard to know who to believe in these situations though.

I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt when things like this happen.  Particularly when they are in a non-supervisory role and a sponsor or endorser.  As endorsers usually you have no control over anything and your knowledge of the company is often fairly limited as well.  Typically someone says "look we've been in business for x-years.  We run a profitable business and we are willing to cut you x-$$$ for the use of your name and a small # of appearances.  What then happens is that the endorser becomes the face of the company and the management becomes less responsible in the public eye.  Good luck to Tony if he had no knowledge or involvement with this stuff.  That media circus will get nasty.

I had a look at T6 a while back and gave it a miss because it seemed fishy.
