Another hand with 88....

No info on the reraiser.

This one's interesting because of a hand we discussed before, how leading out makes the hand play easier.  And it did.

<a href="http://www.pokerhandreplays.com/flash/replayer.swf?pokerhandid=394780" target="_blank">http://www.pokerhandreplays.com/flash/replayer.swf?pokerhandid=394780</a>

Pre-Flop: Standard, no need to reraise
Flop:  I lead out, when the raiser calls here its likely overcards or an overpair.  Overcards are more likely though.  Wow this hand plays easier, hmm?
Turn:  When he doesn't raise I know what he has.
River:  Backdoor flush hit, but people call down light with ace high.  This is tough here at the end.  He has so little money that this could be desperation.  I think this is a must call though with the pot odds.

I'd have played this exactly the same way and called on the river.  I don't think you should fold getting 10:1 to someone who's effectively stacking off.

What did he have?  At first I thought he probably had overs in clubs and caught the flush on the river, but someone this short would often just jam the turn in that case.  So I'd guess he either had a J which he knew he was committing with anyway and decided to slowplay it, or he's doing something strange with a hand like 76, or he's jamming with whatever he has and hoping he's best.  People do odd things when they're short since they're often on tilt after losing a bunch of money.

Do you think this is a call if he wasn't short?  I'd usually call anyway and then wonder if I should...

I'm no limit expert but this looks like a check/call to me.  Or are we paying off too much when he has it and giving the free showdown when he doesn't?  Bet/calling 88 seems thin to me.

V, I like a bet on the river because his range is so weighted towards A-high.  If he had a J or 99-TT he'd probably have raised the flop to get the pot heads up, and it's generally not a good idea to worry about backdoor draws coming in when considering whether or not to value bet.

It's player-dependent though, and a loose-passive player could well play a pair of jacks or 99 like this.  But then a loose/passive player probably wouldn't have three-bet preflop with a hand like 99 or AJ, so again I think it's much more likely he has a hand like AQ.  You'd be surprised at how many people routinely call down with A-high these days.

This is a good point.  I think it is based on the size of the pot.  If i had more hands against him and a better read I might fold.  I knew I was going to see A Clubs K Clubs or A Clubs Q Clubs
