The tech store nearby is having a big sale and I saw this for 10 bucks:

How do I know if this will work with the scripting programs, is there some list of compatible software?

Thanks. - Adam

It looks very similar to the one Mel and I have, so I'd guess it would work fine with TableNinja.  I haven't seen a list of compatible software anywhere, maybe Mel can advise you?

To use it you also have to download free software to convert key presses to buttons on the gamepad.  I'm using Xpadder, but you can also use JoyToKey and there are others I'm sure.

Yeah the problem isnt making it work with stars keys or table ninja etc.

What you need is the program to make pushing buttons on a gamepad, convert to pressing designated buttons on your computer.

For instance the right anolog stick on my gamepad acts as the mouse.  Button #1 = *   Button #2 = +   stuff like that.  Then  you use the ninja or hotkeys to make * on your keyboard mean fold  and + mean raise etc.

I think it would probably work with xpadder though.  I dont think xpadder was made SPECIFICALLY for the one tony and I have.  AND if its made for a computer, it stands to reason there is software that allows it to work.  Otherwise what would be the point.

At first I thought, if I were Superman, a perfect secret identity would be "Clark Kent, Dentist," because you could save money on tooth X-rays. But then I thought, if a patient said, "How's my back tooth?" and you just looked at it with your X-ray vision and said, "Oh it's okay," then the patient would probably say, "Aren't you going to take an X-ray, stupid?" and you'd say, "Aw fuck you, get outta here," and then he probably wouldn't even pay his bill. ~ Jack Handy

Actually I think it's made to be a cheap replacement for a sony playstation controller, which is why I'm wondering.

well what the fuck, does it have a USB compatible chord or does it have a Play station cord, they dont look alike at all.

**Edit***

The one Tony and I have is VERY similar to a playstation controller as well in the style and layout, but its made for the PC, so maybe that is whats throwing you?  I dont know, but Im NOT offering a refund if its wrong just so we're clear, I dont know where my Canadian money is anymore anyway... I KNEW I'd never keep track of it long enough to go back and spend it...

The fact that you replied in such a short one liner without even bothering to use a  .   at the end... makes me feel especially stupid.

OK they must not be selling these because I just got an email from the story saying the gamepads  are on sale for $7.  I checked online and it seems like Saitek (the generic brand) is compatible with Xpadder so I'll try this out.  Thanks all.

Sweet, this is very comfortable and it comes with a software CD to program hotkeys.  Its marketed to fps players so it comes programmer with keyboard shortcuts already.   Razz

This is great, the feel is excellent.  Anyone who wants to get a gamepad try the saitek p990:
