UltimateBet completed it's merge on the Cereus network yesterday and the jackpot (which was around $300,000 before the merge) jumped to $700,000ish almost immediately.  It was won early this morning and I have a picture:

It was won on a micro No-Limit table (I was playing Limit at the time! Sad ) and was around $800k

There are at least twice as many people playing at UltimateBet now and they have a new client (it has pros and cons) so I've been spending a lot of time there lately, in fact I hit their Legend VIP level again this month.  I'll have more on the new client and the merge and whether PotRipper is playing later.

A little puzzle, can you figure out what their hole cards were and what the board had to contain?

On first glance, it is obvious that the board has to have 8h 7h, but I am struggling to figure out how we could determine their hole cards.

For hole cards which give a "natural" The board could be:

BoardSqRtMag
8h 7h 4h Jh X6h 5h Th 9h
8h 7h 4h Th X6h 5h Jh 9h
8h 7h 4h 9h X6h 5h Jh Th

And I give...don't want to write out all 30 or so permutations just for the "natural" hands. Then there are all of the "unnatural" hands. But I like to think SqRt came in with 6h 5h, Mag comes with Jh Th, and flop comes 8h 7h 4h, turn X, river 9h.

That would give the low hand a 9 high straight flush and he had 8-high

I knew I was thinking too fast.

So, now I like to think SqRt came in with 6h 5h, Mag comes with Jh 9h, and flop comes 8h 7h 4h, turn X, river Th.

Are there rules on the bad-beat jackpot about having to use both hole cards? Be really lame bad beat if holding 72o, board comes str8 flush, and opp holds one for higher str8 flush.

OK, that makes it easier, but still quite a few different hand combinations plus the problem of the 5th board card.

don't have to worry about the 5th board card, and there aren't that many hand combinations!  I should get better at defining these quizzes Smile

OK, fine, this is what I get:

sqrt 6h 5h     mag Jh 9h     board Th 8h 7h 4h X
sqrt 6h 5h     mag Th 9h     board Jh 8h 7h 4h X
sqrt 5h 4h     mag Jh 9h     board Th 8h 7h 6h X
sqrt 5h 4h     mag Th 9h     board Jh 8h 7h 6h X
sqrt 6h 4h     mag Jh 9h     board Th 8h 7h 5h X
sqrt 6h 4h     mag Th 9h     board Jh 8h 7h 5h X

Would you like me to map out the order they were dealt? 'o)

yakman seems to have it covered, but I have a bit of a techincality question about the bad beat jackpot..

How are the rules actually defined?

If the board holds
6h 7h 8h 9h

square route holds
4h 5h

and
Jh Th

now, are the rules such that square route's best hand is the 9 high straight flush, but as far as the bad beat jackpot is concerned he can use both his hole cards to make an 8-high straigh flush, and therefore qualify for the bad beat jackpot?

Awesome question, Jabit. If that is so, then the 9h can hit the board, and there are a few more permutations. But, I have no idea, would be interesting to see the fine print.

I'm pretty sure you have to follow the rules of holdem (which means making the BEST 5 card hand out of your two cards and the 5 on the board) which means you couldn't claim a lower straight flush that used both your hole cards.

At first I thought, if I were Superman, a perfect secret identity would be "Clark Kent, Dentist," because you could save money on tooth X-rays. But then I thought, if a patient said, "How's my back tooth?" and you just looked at it with your X-ray vision and said, "Oh it's okay," then the patient would probably say, "Aren't you going to take an X-ray, stupid?" and you'd say, "Aw fuck you, get outta here," and then he probably wouldn't even pay his bill. ~ Jack Handy

Today's UltimateBet Jackpot... If I could just make myself sit at the no-limit tables instead of the limit tables I'd have a share Sad

The remaining 7 people at the table got $1,169.06 each and everyone playing at the limit got $169.06 x the # of tables they were playing.
