Thanks again guys.

Dave, I've noticed loads of good things about losing weight to be honest.  Being able to fit into clothes I haven't been able to wear for ages is great of course.  And I'm looking forward to seeing the reaction of my family when I see them at Christmas (I haven't seen them since I started the diet).

But the best thing is that I'm able to walk, run and generally move around without getting out of breath and sweating profusely.  It sounds strange but I literally feel lighter, it's just SO much easier to move around.  It's really noticeable.  It had gotten to the stage where my stomach was so large I couldn't even bend down to tie my own shoes without a real struggle, how bad is that?  It feels like it's taken years off me, it's hard to describe.

I sleep better (not sure why, probably because I'm not eating so much at night before I go to bed), and bizarrely I feel significantly less stressed out.  I'm not sure why I should, but I definitely don't get as angry or frustrated with things as I used to.  I think it probably has something to do with feeling better about myself generally.  Losing weight definitely increases your self-esteem, I think I underestimated how unhappy being overweight was making me.

Also I haven't drank alcohol, coffee and I've mostly avoided sugary/fatty/e-number laden foods since I started, and I'm convinced that has had a positive effect on my moods and general state of mind.  I feel a lot calmer and definitely happier than I did.

In other words, I think it's been worth the money  Very Happy

Wk 15: DISASTER STRIKES!

Weigh-in results: 12st 3lb (77.6kg), BMI = 26.

Total weight-loss so far: 1st 13.5lb (12.5kg)

OMG just as it was going so well, I put ON 3lb this week  Shocked  I knew it hadn't been the greatest week ever diet-wise, but I really didn't expect that.

I almost didn't go to the meeting this week, I was knackered and feeling a bit under the weather.  I'm glad I went now, at least it should give me the kick up the arse I need to get back on track.  Unfortunately it would have to happen two days before Christmas.  Oh well, I'll enjoy Christmas day then get back into it.

you'll get back on track

I haven't run for a while but I'm back in wisconsin for christmas.  It's incredibly snowy and cold which means daily cross country skiing.  Best workout in the world, I am usually exhausted after an hour.

Ok I haven't updated this for a week because I missed the last weigh-in for my daughter's birthday.

However tonight I'm saying "bugger the diet" and having a curry with friends from my favourite restaurant.  It has two Michelin stars and is just around the corner, so I won't be counting any points tonight.

I hope everyone has an excellent New Year's Eve.  Speak to you all in the New Year!

Ha ha, that's me Smile

I had a HUGE and delicious curry last night, a few chocolates, one glass of red wine and a glass of champagne to bring in the New Year.  Goodness knows how many points all that lot came to, but MAN it was worth it...

I'm on a strictly porridge and apples diet for the next four days before my weigh-in on Monday night.  Gulp...

Good luck Lowlim, let us know how it goes.

I've tried low-carb diets before, and they do work provided you can stick to them.  You just have to remember they're really a medical diet.  So you have to be really careful that unwanted carbs don't 'sneak' in, such as in milk for example.  I think you need to be eating fewer than 60g of carbs per day, and ideally less than 40g so as to suppress your body's insulin response.

Best of luck, it's a VERY worthwhile thing to do.

Week 17:

11st 10.5lb (74.6kg), BMI = 25.

Woohoo, great week.  Two weeks ago I'd put on 3lb and was back to 12st 3lb.  I missed last week's weigh-in because of my daughter's birthday, but this week I'd lost SIX and a half pounds!  That's 2.9kg in two weeks, I'm pretty stoked about that.

My BMI is also finally in the 'normal' range, so I'm no longer officially overweight.

I'm half a pound away from my goal weight, so all being well I should be there next week.  I've decided I'm going to keep going until I get to 11 stones exactly (69.9kg), which will give me a BMI of 23.  This is near the middle of the 'safe' range and will leave me a bit of room to put on a few pounds every now and again without worrying about it.
