Ok, so after a good week, I have almost breezed through the $5NL, and with a BR of about $170, I am taking a couple of shots at $10NL. I started the day with a few $10 HU sng's. I won a couple, lost a couple, the final loss coming when me and opp have similar stacks, he makes a small raise from the buttong, I just shove with AA (i'm surprised how often this works), he flips QQ  Very Happy.. turn brings third queen.  Mad

ok.. feeling a little tilty, so I have a shot at a $10 9 handed sng, where I end up all in against the same shortstack (yes, he kept on becoming the shortstack) 3 times in about 15 hands. All 3 times I am favourite, all 3 times I am sucked out on. Now this tourney is as good as done for me, and I'm starting to get a little pissed off.

So I could do with a beer, (but I am pretty much flat broke in the real world) so I do myself a deal. Win two more 10 HU sng's and I will cash a little out and buy a case..

My opp is playing rather okay. My stack is 1700, his 1300 I get dealt Ac Kc. raise to 100 (my standard raise), he raises to 400, I shove. He flips Ad Jd, and of course hits his jack. "sorry" he says. "you raised so much that I thought that you couldn't have anything big". Right, now my blood is boiling.

No worries though. I'll head over to the cash games. They are usually good to me.

So I queue up four $10NL tables. While I am waiting for my blinds, I'm reading one of those typical weekend donk's (TWD) go on about how great they are (it seems reading back through that he has sucked out twice in a row) "keep on giving me your money" etc etc. First hand I get AKo. I would be lying if I said that all his shit talking didn't effect the way I played this hand.

Alright, thats it. I'm done for the day. (my blinds haven't even come around on the other 2 tables.)

Ok. So I have 2 hands here. How bad are they? Would I/should I have played hand 1 differently if I wasn't tilting. Or is this the correct play against this kind of player. Hand 2, I was sure he had the flush and likely a better one. But with a made flush and 2 outs to the straight flush, I just couldn't let it go. Obviously a couple of loose calls early in this hand, but if I wasn't tilting, would i still end up stacked here?

Thanks PK.. I was acually expecting some flaming here, so that was a pleasant surprise.. although the poker isn't getting any better!  Confused.. I've had a cup of tea, relaxed for an hour or so, and (thankfully!) dropped back to $5NL.  Am no longer tilting  (thanks PK).

I did a reply to this but it just dissapeared into thin air, as they often do.
Short version is :Don't ever check the flop. You raise or all-in. there's no doubt about it.
Although this is a ring game . I play tourneys. You figure jabit.

Charades, this happens often with web based boards like this one. sometimes if you accidentally hit "refresh" or "back" or any other link, the text will disappear.

You might find it easier to type your posts (particularly long ones) in notepad, which should already be on your computer. Then just copy and paste into your reply when you are finished. That way you will be a lot less likely to suddenly lose a long post.

I am assuming you are talking about the first hand. The reason I checked the flop was not because I didn't want to put any money in. quite the contrary. I had a read (correct or incorrect) on my opp, that he was super aggressive, my hand was probably better than his, and there was no way he wasn't betting this flop. I could arguably have c-raised the flop rather than c-call, then bet all-in on the flop.

Jabit,

All the hands are coolers....... The 8s 7s is the only hand I dont like, not re-raising the turn is a crime as any other spade is gonna kill the action and having NOT raised the turn you HAVE to lead the river....you would be sick if it was checked through and both show down with 2pr or a set.

Thanks David,

I seem to have developed this awful, awful slowplayitis. It clicked to me today, while playing the HU sng's. I make c-bets just about every hand. Then I flop a set, and auto-check. It's totally unnecessary at these limits. The fear of not being paid off on a hand is crippling.

I've also noticed that I absolutely cannot stand the thought of being bluffed out of a pot. It just occured to me today how much I am losing when I call knowing I am beat, but hoping he is bluffing. The price of calling a bluff and getting it wrong is so much more than falling for the bluff itself. (yet even as I type this, I can't help myself. I'm UTG with QJo, raise to $0.25. folded around to BB who min-raises to $0.45. Stacks are about $3.50. I call, thinking "this feels awfully like aces. take care on the flop" flop comes QTT. BB bets $0.05. "ok, thats suspect, I'm confident he has aces". I make a 2/3 pot size raise, and he shoves. There is now no question in my mind that he has aces.... then.... maybe he's bluffing.. ahh, wtf "call". He flips aces. No kidding, this hand happened as I am typing this post, and I still couldn't let it go. Bloody hell. We have work to do.

You need to learn to trust your reads in pots like this one.  When going through a bad streak many people have the tendency to become sheriffs.  If only to prove to themselves that they are right about their read.  Dont fall into this J-Dog.  Fight the urge to call when you have 1-pair hands for a lot of money.
