You have to bet the river dont you?  There's so many hands we beat.  AJ, AT an over played KQ  The only thing that we should have to be truly scared of is a AQ or 55 (I'm assuming QQ 3 bets most times)  With the conterfeited river we beat even an odd ball Q5 (pretty unlikely).  Opp may even have some gutterbal draw like KJ hoping you'll fold.  There's soo many possibilities I think I would have to bet.

Raise flop?!

I don't mind the check-behind on the river, if you're beat and he's getting cute you save a lot.

Raise flop?!

I dont necessarily agree with this.  We shove him off a lot of hands he's going to give us value with.  Usually a turn raise would probably be better with position.  Particulalry considering the turn card is a shovable card for us.  Though we dont know we're getting such a good card I still like the flop call.

honestly i have to raise this river at least a small amount, like $10.  there's an extremely small chance of him having a 2.  calling a pf raise with 55 probably isn't too bright either (though i'm a full table player, so i could be wrong.  i don't think he has QQ, because he probably would've re-raised you pf.  i don't think he's calling your pf raise with something goofy like A5 or Q5 either.  if he has AA (slim chance, obviously) he probably would've re-raised pf.  AQ is a definite (but unlikely) possibility, though.  hope that's not what he had.

so what was the verdict?

If I wasn't the pre-flop aggressor I'm fine with calling with TPTK here.  This is the driest board ever, meaning you're either a big favorite (say 89% against AJo) or a big dog (18% vs AQ, 7% against 55).

But in this case are we calling so we can get away from our hand if an unfavorable turn card comes, or calling to extract more from hands like AT?

Is he really folding Ax to a flop raise?  The kind of player who calls in the SB and then donks out on the flop isn't usually a great one, and I'm not sure if he can get away from a worse ace here if you raise the flop.

As played, I can't see how this is a set for his opponent, since checking the river would be so so bad if you caught the runner-runner full house.  I think it's a worse ace a lot of the time although I'm prepared for david to tell us he flips quad fours - nothing surprises me anymore.  Razz

I like raising or calling the flop here. I'd probably raise as we can get a lot of value from weaker hands, and we were the preflop raiser.

I think you got the right sized pot for your hand.  Just calling the flop and the turn allows your opponent to overplayer pairs with bad kickers, and spewy bluffs. If he is generally aggressive, you hand is strong enough to call all the way to showdown.

I dont mind the check behind on the river.  You're not going to get much value, as the hands you beat should know they are probably beat when you call 2 bets on a dryish board and then bet out on the river.   You would probably have to bet quite small to get value, and I dont like doing this as it leaves you very vulnerable to a checkraise bluff.

He flips A9s, but my mind was thinking the same as Robs and TBH, I would have hated a big river bet, after he flips, I felt weak about it..especially as the board pairs and I thought afterwards that he woulda called a reasonable river bet as ONLY AK/AQ beat him (ace wise)
