This PF call was made solely for image purposes.  Most of the people at this table (and certainly both the players seeing the flop with me) have played with me long enough to know how tight I typically play (a carefully nurtured image, FYI.)  This results in my getting my Blinds raised fairly regularly, which I don't mind in the least - it makes the OOP play/don't play decision that much easier.

I do, of course, have to play back periodically just to keep 'em from getting too comfortable with it.  With the MP caller in the hand (someone I know to be fairly solid) I almost changed my mind, but figured I could see a flop and play smart knowing only a very few flops are going to keep me from folding like a cheap tent.

This is a pretty tough tourney, so what happened is pretty much the only way I get paid off... he even said later that there was no way he was committing many chips holding just the Set with the Flush and Straight possibilities out there and me in the hand... Smile  Of course I believe him since there is no lying in poker.

Even this fantastic result only got me to the final table - and not in the money.  Where's a Bad Beat Jackpot when you need one, eh?  Wink

PS: all the "has 15 seconds left to act"s in there are NOT me trying to posture; just goes to show how poor the Full Tilt connection has become...

I'm more fixated by that table theme...  I wonder if I could get used to playing with that

I use a similar table layout of pokerstars, but I cant get used to it on full tilt.  I just use the std deck with 4 colours there.

Nice hand zerbet.  What did you put him on? did you know you were gonna get raised on the river? I dont think I could have it in me to slowplay this all the way to the river (probably would have been all in on the flop if it was me) ... you trappy bastard  Laughing

VNH! rofl zerbet @ slowrolling the turn  Laughing

...that layout is a trip! If I were sleepy enough and had a ten in my hand with a ten on the board I might just think I had quads with the redundant caption thingie on the cards! lol  Laughing

What did you put him on? did you know you were gonna get raised on the river?

loser's range is wider than average, even out of position.  He'd make the preflop raise with me in the Big Blind with a number of medium strength hands (suited aces and that kind of stuff) in addition to the obvious, stronger ones.

I'd decided to call pretty much any SPFR in this hand before it was ever dealt, for the reasons stated in the OP - the fact that it was loser that made the raise actually made me feel somewhat better about my chances.  When Eriver called, that changed things some because Eriver is pretty tight, but I felt like I needed to stick to my plan since it was only a call and not a raise.

With multiple draws for backup on the flop and what I know about joker, I intended to check-raise him - I anticipated that loser would bet, Eriver would fold, and I would hit him with the check-raise and win the pot.

Then loser under-bet the pot and everything changed.  That bet was completely outside his normal betting pattern, and signaled two pair or better to me, which sent the implied odds through the roof and made it a pretty easy call.

When one of the two Ultimate Gin Cards hit on the turn, I was actually wishing it had been an off-suit K instead.  I figured the only line that might get me some chips with my Uber Monster was to pretend the flush scared me and hope he bought it.  Seemed unlikely, and I fully expected a check behind... then he bet the same amount again as he bet on the flop.

AA/KK never entered my mind, to be honest; I think I just intuitively felt it didn't fit the pre- and post-flop betting at all.  I wondered if maybe he just made a straight... or maybe hit his Kicker to make the two pair I already had him on, and he wasn't convinced that I didn't have the flush... but he felt like he had to bet with a hand as good as he thought had.

The board pairing on the river left me wondering what to do.  It felt like I had to bet, even though I didn't know if I'd fooled him with the "scared" check-call on the Turn.  I decided to bet about twice what he'd been betting, again hoping that it would seem like a weak stab at the pot or that he'd try to "out-think" me ("He bet weak, to make me think he's really strong, but he knows I'd think that so he really IS really weak...")

I was shocked when he raised me - I thought the best I could hope for was a call with him showing down the nut flush or another QJ, or AT, etc.  A.s I mentioned, he claimed he wouldn't have even called me with Trip Tens... good to know, I guess. Smile
